Cultural Exchange Continues in Harrisburg, PA

The Life Writes Project is proud to partner with Central Dauphin School District to welcome Mr. Alex Garcia to our schools 24–26 November 2014.

Mr. Garcia is a teacher with the Medellín Department of Education in Medellín, Colombia. He is fluent in English. Mr. Garcia will see and experience learning at schools throughout Central Dauphin School District, including co-teaching opportunities with district teachers, interactions with students, site visitations to various schools within the district, and more.

Additionally, Mr. Garcia will meet with members of the administrative team at CDSD under the leadership of Dr. Carol Johnson, Superintendent of Central Dauphin School District. Mr. Garcia will share the recent initiatives of the Medellín Department of Education in teaching English in Medellín.

The Life Writes Project is an education nonprofit organization based in Harrisburg, PA with the express mission to build capacity in everyone involved in a young person’s education through storytelling and dialogue. The Life Writes Project is comprised of primary-, secondary-, and university-level educators who believe in the power of providing pathways for our young people and their teachers to share their stories and their work with others across the United States and internationally.

Mr. Garcia’s official visit from the Medellín Department of Education in Medellín, Colombia is a direct outgrowth of a recent trip to Medellín, Colombia led by the Life Writes Project in October 2014. Since then, the Project has garnered the support of the Office of Global Education at Millersville University, Medellín Department of Education in Medellín, and others in the United States and Colombia.

Closer to home, Life Writes supports cultural exchanges that enrich the dialogue of learning with students and teachers. Life Writes also creates writing and arts programs for area youth.
