The inaugural Life Writes Exhibition was held on July 17, 2013 at the Friendship Community Center in Harrisburg, PA. Eighth grade students from the Central Dauphin School District summer school program displayed their writing and their artwork.
Each student prepared a series of three pieces of writing, what is called a triptych narrative, that highlights triumphs, tragedies, and tributes from their personal experiences. Throughout the summer leading up to the exhibition students engaged in a series of dialogues about the place of stories in the landscape of human experience. Each then found three unique and memorable stories to tell as part of their narrative projects.
Additionally, students produced a collage that thematically illustrated their work. Both the collages and the narrative project were displayed in the Friendship Center lobby for members of the community to read, view and enjoy.
Community partners supplied music, refreshments and decorations for the event.
